Affiliate disclosure
Arigato earns affiliate commission on some of the shop links in our gift guides and registries. If you follow one of those links and buy something, the shop may pay us a small percentage of what you spent. You pay exactly the same price as you would have anyway — the commission comes out of the shop's margin, not out of your pocket.
Which links earn us something
Not all of them, and the difference is worth understanding. We are in the Amazon Associates programme for amazon.com.au, so links to those Amazon storefronts are affiliate links. Links to other shops — Kmart, Target, BIG W, Myer, Bunnings, a small Etsy seller — are usually plain links that earn us nothing at all. They are in the guides because they were the right answer.
Every guide states, above its first recommendation, how many of its links are affiliate links. Individual product links are marked rel="sponsored nofollow" in the page's HTML, which is the machine-readable half of the same disclosure.
What it changes, and what it does not
- It does not change the price you pay. Not by a cent, ever.
- It does not decide what we recommend. Products are chosen and ranked before anyone checks which shop stocks them, and picks that earn us nothing appear on merit.
- It does not mean the shop endorsed us, or that we have any relationship with the manufacturer.
- It does mean we have a financial interest in you clicking, which is precisely why we tell you.
On registries, not just guides
The same applies to gift links inside a registry someone has made. When a guest buys a gift through a registry link, the shop may pay us a commission. This is how a registry is free for the person making it and free for every guest, with no fees, no premium tier and no cut of any gift. We never touch the money for a gift itself: guests buy at the shop, and their payment, delivery and returns are entirely between them and that shop.
The wording Amazon requires
As an Amazon Associate, Arigato earns from qualifying purchases. Amazon and the Amazon logo are trademarks of Amazon.com, Inc. or its affiliates. Product prices and availability shown on this site are accurate as at the date and time indicated and are subject to change; any price and availability information displayed on the relevant Amazon site at the time of purchase is what applies.
